As the driver of a Volkswagen Passat, You have probably found Yourself having to pull over for gas, but are unable to locate the release button or lever for the fuel tank. You can't find it because it doesn't exist. Opening the gas door on Your vehicle is very easy. First, get out of Your vehicle, and stand in front of the fuel door. Using Your fingertips, firmly press inward on the small square door containing the fuel tank. Make sure You are in the lower right corner when pressing. The door should depress, then pop open. Now, all You have to do is unscrew the cap, and put the nozzle into the tank.

Since there is no button or switch to open the gas tank on a 2020 Volkswagen passat, you will need to push on the cap, and it will pop open.

My 2016 Passat gas tank will not open. Normally once I unlock the door, I can push the gas tank open but now it will not work. What’s the problem?

Make sure your car is not locked or the gas door will not open.

Debbie, the gas flap door on a 2021 Passat NO longer locks with the wireless remote according to the dealer. Its always open to strangers. I would suggest you get a locking screw on gas cap. The 2018 Passat does lock when the vehicle is locked. Not sure why VW would have removed this feature. I purchased both cars. Hopefully this helps others.
