The Ford Explorer is equipped with a rear hatch door installed with a window. To release the hatch's window only, without opening the entire door, locate the handle on the hatch to the right of the middle of the panel. Make sure all the doors are unlocked by using the remote. Turn the lever/handle the opposite way used for opening the hatch. It will reveal a rubber button. Depress the button and the rear window should release independently of the door. Some owners' key fobs are also equipped with a "blue" button that accomplishes the same task. Always check the owner's manual for the exact procedure based on year, make and model.

Bought a used 2016 Ford Explorer Limited in Jan. ‘22. It is now July ‘22. Still haven’t figured out how to open rear window, independent of the hatch. Maybe it just doesn’t!
