The oil change light on Your 2006 Mazda3 needs to be reset after every oil change so that the system can determine when the next oil change is due. If You don't reset the light, You will find that Your vehicle will indicate that You need another oil change sooner than would be necessary. The procedure only takes a few moments. First, press and hold the "Trip" button while the ignition is turned off. While You continue to hold the "Trip" button, You should now turn the ignition to the "On" position without starting the engine. After 5 to 10 seconds You will see the Master Warning Light flash for a few moments and this is Your indication that the oil light has been reset. You have completed the procedure and You can turn Your ignition off.

After 5 seconds the master warning light will flash for a few seconds to indicate the reset is complete. Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.
