If You need to put Your Mercedes S550 into neutral when it has a dead battery You will need to use the manual override. The gear selector system in the S550 is electronic, so Mercedes did create an override system in case the battery dies. First You will need to pry the cover off the center console using a pry tool or a small screwdriver. This will allow You to access the override switch. Next You will need to press firmly down on that and it will shift the transmission into neutral. This can allow You to push the car out of traffic or get it up onto a tow truck to be taken in to have the battery replaced.

There is not a manual override for the S550 to be able to put it in neutral with a dead battery and it needs to be jump started.
