If the Ford Escape has a dead battery and You need to put it in neutral then You will need to follow these steps. Set the parking brake so that You do not roll while You are doing this. Then look on the side of the shifter. There is a small panel that You can open and inside is a white lever. Pull this to let go of the manual park release. Now with this pushed down You will want to shift into neutral as You would normally, then once there let go of the lever. Remove the parking brake and You should be in neutral and not rolling.

To put your escape in neutral simply insert your key into the ignition; turn it to the "on" or "acc" position. Depress the brake pedal completely. Move the shift selector to neutral.
