The removal of the center console in a 2002 Ford Explorer can be removed but it is a strenuous process because of the time and labor it takes. The tools required for the removal are A7mm socket, 8mm socket, ratchet, large slotted screwdriver, and a putty knife. The first thing You will have to do is remove the rubber mat and then take out the screw underneath which iS7mm. Now You can open the center console and use a screw driver to pry the center console out. With console lifted out You will remove the power point connectors and the cigarette lighter wiring as well. Now You can pop off the wiring harness once it is disconnected and then remove the screws of the duct with 8mm socket.

You have to remove the middle armrest and the two covers and then the cup holder. After that you are able to remove the console.

Open the hood of the vehicle and keep it open. Prey out the four retainer clips located at each corner of the console. Remove both screws from the cup holder and slide it forward until it comes free from the console. Unplug the electrical connectors for air conditioning and the radio, and then lift the console out of the car.
