If You need to take the steering wheel out of Your Ford Ranger to change it for a new one it is usually a pretty easy job. The first thing that You should do is make sure to disconnect Your battery so that You do not have any electrical failures. When Your battery is disconnected use a pry tool to remove the airbag assembly from the steering wheel. After that You can disconnect the molex plug on the rear of the airbag. You will also want to unplug the steering wheel controls plug. Then You can use an impact tool to remove the main nut that holds the steering wheel in place. When You install a new wheel be sure to install all Your electrical accessories before putting the airbag back in.

Remove the steering wheel by turning engine off, opening hood to remove negative battery cable (wait five minutes so airbags can disengage) and then removing all screws and bolts. The steering wheel should now be free.

Put the ranger steering wheel into neutral position. Open the hood and use a socket wrench to take the negative battery cable off. Take the two screws on the steering wheel cover off. Take off the two screws that are holding the upper dashboard trim. Take off the steering wheel bolt for the steering wheel. Take off the four screws that hold the steering column to the car.
