If You need to progRam a key fob on a Ford Transit Van it is a pretty straightforward and easy process to do. There are two main ways to do it. The first is using a dealership level tool to progRam the fob to match the car. If You do not have access to that then there is another way to do it. The first thing You need to do is close the doors then open the driver's side door and press the unlock button on the driver's door. Now You will need to put the key in the ignition and turn it from off to run 8 times within 10 seconds without starting the engine. After that press any button on Your key fob within 8 seconds. The door locks will lock and unlock to let You know progRamming was successful.
These instructions do not work on a 2020 Transit Connect. 2020 vans have a new fob with different programing.

Put any key into the transit's ignition and turn it to the 'on' position or second position 8 times quickly. You will hear the doors lock and unlock. After the eight time press any button on the new remote and the doors will lock and unlock again, indicating programming is underway.

Thanks for this. My second key has not worked for nearly 8 years. I am too cheap to go to a dealer and pay the price of stupid. I read this and walked out to my car followed these instructions and it worked perfect ++ first try. Thanks again
I have 3 keys to our Ford transit custom 2016, none of them work for central locking, if I reprogram as mentioned will they work again with central locking?
2016 transit van key fob reprogram. Insert key in ignition turn to on position and back off eight times after the eighth time turn back off then push lock button on new key fob will hear a tone saying vehicle receive communication.

Tried this method without success on my 2012 transit, took the key apart to see about changing battery (no luck there) the key was d***y and dusty inside and looked ready to have rust so I cleaned it with penetrating oil, waited an hour for it to work it’s magic then reassembled the key and away she went first turn. Hopefully this works for someone else, cheers
This did not work on my 2015 Transit. My door lock buttons work sometimes, but not always. My fobs stopped working after we pulled down the overhead light compartment during I rebuild. Keys stopped working after that. Any idea why? Thanks
