In the Ford Escape the rear wiper can be operated via a button at the end of the control lever. There are three options, the lower one being Off. The top of the button can be pressed to switch to a intermittent wipe. If pressed again it will switch to a low-speed wipe. The rear wiper automatically changes to an intermittent wiper if You are driving in reverse with the front wipers in motion. When needing to clean the rear window, push the lever away from You after which the wiper will turn on to disperse and clean fluid.

On the tip of the windshield wiper control stalk is a button with three settings. To ensure the rear wiper is off, set that button to the "o" position.
