To turn off the check engine light on a Ford Ranger, watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOtXMC3y3fM You will come across many issues with an engine. A spark plug may come off, causing engine issues. A gasket may become loose and that needs to be tightened up. You can have oil leaks and those need to be repaired quickly. A really serious problem is the engine overheating. This may lead to fires and the car exploding. There could be excessive oil use, requiring the oil to be replaced sooner than expected. The coolant needs to be changed every 60,000 miles or so. Your air filter needs to be changed every 15,000 to 30,000 miles or so. The spark plugs need to be changed every 100,000 miles unless it's a copper one. A cooper spark plug needs to be changed every 30,000 miles.

To reset the check engine light on your ford ranger first turn off the car. Then, open the hood and disable the battery cable negative terminal from the battery, and leave it off for 30 seconds. Reconnect the battery cable negative terminal, and your check engine light should have reset. Note: this will also reset all of your saved radio station presets.

Disconnecting battery terminal only works for one running of the engine. The second time u start it, the CEL will come right back on. Unless u actually fix the problem.

Again, an OBD2 scan tool can do this. There is a reason the check light came on.

Check to see if your Cig lighter is working. It is on the same fuse as the OBD readout sensor plug. If the fuse is blown, replace it. Then remove the negative battery cable for 30 sec., then replace it. This will hopefully reset the check engine light.
