The Ford Escape's airbags are only designed to be turned off by the car's own automatic sensing system. Your vehicle uses sensors in the seat cushion and seatbelt to determine if a passenger is riding in the front of the SUV. The airbag indicator light is located above the center dash's air vents. It will only illuminate continuously if "sensing" has switched the airbag off. If an adult is detected, the light will flash temporarily then go off. If the airbag indicator stays lit check the front seat for obstructions like cargo pressing from behind or items stuck under the seat. Turn the vehicle off and then turn it back on and wait for 2 minutes. If Your airbag light doesn't reset schedule a service visit.

To turn off the airbags on the passenger side, turn the ignition off for ten seconds. Turn it back on and the airbag light should come on for six seconds and then turn off.
