The passenger airbag in the Ford Fusion is automatically turned on or off depending on whether or not someone is in the passenger seat. If someone is in the passenger seat and does not meet the weight limit then the airbag will automatically be turned off. Airbags are life saving devices in the event of an accident, but they are designed to automatically be turned off if a child is in the seat. A child could be harmed more than an adult by an airbag detonating in the event of a crash so that is why it is turned off. In general the back seat is a safer place to put children than the front seat because there is not a windshield directly ahead of them.

Turn on the vehicle. Wait for the airbag to signal on. Then keep the person in the seat for at least a minute and it will be turned on.
