If You do not want the overdrive to turn on in a Ford Focus while You are on the highway it is very simple to turn off. All You will need to do is press the overdrive button located to the left side of the gear selector while You are driving and that will disable it. Overdrive is a smaller gear that can allow Your vehicle's RPMs to drop when You are at a cruising speed so that You can get better fuel economy. If You have a car that is loaded with weight, or You need to accelerate at high speeds then I recommend disabling the system so that You have more power while You are driving fast.

Locate the overdrive button on the gear shifter. The overdrive button can be found on the left side of the shifter, below the button used to shift gears. Release it to turn the overdrive off.
