Planning a trip, eh It's a good idea to update the maps on Your Toyota Highlander's navigation system prior to a new adventure, so that You have an accurate guide for those paths unknown. The process is pretty simple and shouldn't take long. You'll want to take the SD card from Your vehicle and insert it into Your desktop computer. Use Toyota's Map Update Toolbox when Your OS has shown it recognizes the card. If there's an update available, there'll be a button that prompts You to snag the latest content. You'll want to click this button; it starts the process. Once it's done, the toolbox will tell You the SD card is current. You can exit the toolboxAt this point. Now, eject the SD card from Your system, and take it back to Your vehicle. You should now have properly updated navigation maps.

This is untrue. To update the Highlander maps (at least for 2019) you must go to the dealer and pay for "labor." The Yaris get them downloaded but not the top of the line Highlander.
After having issues with the Navigation system, I just came from my dealer and they informed me that there are no updates, which seems extremely odd to me. Nearly 4 years and there is not an update? No wonder the system is taking everywhere but where I need to go. For the amount I paid for the vehicle, I'm frustrated when I'm told to use my phone.
You can purchase an SD card update for about $40 from Amazon thru2019 models. It's always one year behind, so a 2023 card will be for 2022, but it's better than the 2014 one I'd had until I installed the new one this week.
