The Chevy'S-10-bolt differential cover is oval in shape and measures 11 inches by 10.25 inches. It comes equipped with either A8.5 inch oR8.6 inch axle that's capable of transferring up to 1,000 HP to a truck's rear wheels. The 10-bolt can also be affixed to GM'S7.5/7.625- and 8.2-inch axles, but they deliver less power and performance than the 8.5" oR8.6" versions. Larger axles feature a broader ring and pinion gear surface that allows for cooler operating temperatures and enhanced HP when moving. Gear oil is essential to lubricating the driveshaft and wheel axles in a truck. The Chevy Silverado is equipped with an 8.6 inch rear differential that uses A75W-90 gear oil. The differential casing can be found under the truck in the middle of the driveshaft. The cover is bolted on with twelve 10mm bolts and the plug can be opened using a 3/8" drive.
