When the battery light turns on in a 2009 Toyota Corolla that means that there is a problem that has been detected with Your car's electrical system. It could be an issue with the battery or the alternator. The first thing to check is the battery when it is resting. It should be above 12 volts when it has been sitting for a couple hours, if it is below 12 volts that could be an indication that there is a bad cell in the battery and it will need to be replaced. The next thing to check is the charging voltage from the alternator. It should charge Your car's electrical system at 14.4 volts and if it is below that then You will need to check the alternator and voltage regulator on it.

My light is on when I first start the car but turns off after driving for some time. I would say the charging system is doing it's job. I suspect a bad cell in the battery.

The battery light on a 2009 toyota camry comes on because there is a battery charging problem. If it stays on when you are driving there is probably a problem with your alternator belt.
