If Your Toyota 4Runner vent selector is not working that is usually a sign of a problem with a blend door. The blend door controls where the air goes in Your vehicle's HVAC system and when it is not working properly You will not be able to control it. The blend door opens and closes to let air go to the upper or lower part of the system, and it uses an actuator to do this. When the actuator fails it can lead to the system getting stuck in either an opened or closed state and that will make the air not go where You want it to go.

The most likely causes of a vent selector not working in a toyota 4runner are blown fuse, a bad servo motor, or loose linkage.
