The 2009-2013 Honda Pilot is the subject of two TSBs for the piston rings which may fail at roughly 72,000 miles or compromise spark plugs. Under an extended powertrain warranty progRam, Honda has agreed to replace spark plugs and clean affected piston rings to correct an engineering fault. The TSB is the result of A-A-Classction lawsuit. The rings are known to rotate and align in a manner that degrades spark plugs and causes engine mIS Fires. Honda dealerships are instructed to perform related repairs for free under the new 8 years and unlimited mileage warranty. The second TSB involves pistons that may get stuck open and cause high oil consumption. This affects 2008-2011 Hondas and includes an extended 8 year or 125,000 warranty to cover the costs of replacement.

American honda declares an enhancement of the powertrain warranty as a consequence of a resolution of the class action referred to in soto et al. V. American honda motor co., Inc., Case no. 3:12-Cv-1377-si (n.D. Cal.). Piston rings on some cylinders can rotate and align, which can contribute to the fouling of the spark plug. This can set the dtcs p0301 to p0304 and trigger the mil to start. American honda is extending the powertrain warranty to cover repairs related to engine failure (which causes dtcs p0301 to p0304) to 8 years of unrestricted mileage from the original date of purchase and has resolved a class case on the basis of this remedial measure.
