There is a service bulletin about the oil pump in a Ford Ranger, but there is not any active recall that has been issued for them. The service bulletin relates to the Ranger's oil pump being unable to prime after changing the oil. When You are changing the oil in a Ranger You need to move quick. If You let the oil drain for more than ten minutes it may lead to the pump not being able to prime when You refill it. This can lead to no oil moving through the engine which can ruin it very fast. The trick to avoiding that is to not completely drain the engine when You are changing the oil.

The ford ranger 3.2 Oil pump recall due to the oil pump fails to prime which leaves the engine in a critical no lubrication state.

99% of the oil is drained in 5 minutes. I’ve done multiple oil changes on these vehicles and it’s no problem. Drain until it’s just a drip then replace the sump plug and do the filter. The secret is being prepared and have the correct amount of oil pre-decanted into something you can pour from . The oil pump’s actually failing is the real problem! It’s an absolute disgrace that ford used this oil pump to save a tiny bit of fuel consumption. Regular oil pumps last forever and and practically fail safe and have worked fine for 100 years.

@Gary Serdent…. Your a dipstick !!! Drain it until it’s just a trickle ! So half full or completely full or a third full it doesn’t matter. Drain it until it’s just a trickle then replace the sump plug and don’t let it sit draining while you jerk off in some forum

So it says don't drain completely. But how do you know when it's near empty? Says don't drain for no longer than 10mins. But what if there's only half amount showing on dipstick? So what then don't drain for more than 5 mins ???
