Back in 2014, Honda announced a recall for 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 Civics that offered engine replacement for vehicles affected by engine block cracks and leaking coolant. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, the warranty has expired; Honda extended it to ten years, which expired in, at the latest, 2019. Still, it shows that there is a widespread problem. You may notice that the Civic is seeping coolant from the engine or overheating. The relevant technical service bulletin is TSB 10-048 if You want to read more about the causes, symptoms, fixes, and more. It's unfortunate that You missed the boat on the timeframe, because the issue does seem to be quite serious.

Hi, I've seen that this recall covered in TSB 10-048 ended in 2019. My sons car recently incurred the issue, with the leaking from the spot left of the exhaust manifold. He's having to put coolant in every other day. I'm told that most dealers will not honor it after the 2019 ten year mark.

Honda is offering a new engine block or entirely new, free engine to owners from 2006 through 2008 and some early 2009 civics who produced a coolant leak from the engine block. The free service applies to all civics except the hybrid and civic si, which essentially extends the initial warranty to 10 years, irrespective of the mileage.
