As the owner of a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban, You may have encountered some symptoms that You suspect are originating from Your transmission. Most of these can be attributed to a need for a transmission fluid change, but others are more serious. If the tranny has gone bad, You will experience a sudden loss of access to third gear. The shifting pattern will go immediately from drive to second, but not third. This is called difficult or rough shifting. You also may lose Your ability to travel in reverse, and only suffer a loud grinding noise, or vibrations from the engine compartment, for Your efforts. Replacing the transmission can cost between $473 and $1748 for parts alone. With labor, You can pay an additional $473 to $1723.
