If Your fuel gauge isn't working, sometimes, You just need to reset it. You can do this by holding down the trip button on Your odometer and turning the vehicle off while You're holding it. Then, turn Your Ford Ranger back on, and verify it says that it's in trip mode. Turn the truck back off. When You turn it on again, see if the gauge is properly tracking. If that doesn't work, like everything, the fuel sensor's got a fuse, so check that. It's always possible that, depending on the year, Your analog gauge has failed; digital ones are less prone to this. Another thing drivers have encountered is the wiring in the engine becoming compromised, which obviously will also result in not having a way of tracking Your current fuel level.

To reset the fuel gauge on the Ford Ranger you need to hit the ODO/TRIP button, then turn the vehicle off. Hold the button and turn it back on and make sure it says it is in ODO/TRIP mode. Now turn the vehicel off again. Wait 10 min, turn it on, then turn it off. It is now reset. If this does not work then the gauge may not be getting power, or the wires leading to it are bad.
