The Ford Transit 250 is known as a reliable vehicle -- until it's not. Unfortunately, there appear to be some deep seated issues with their transmissions, primarily in the 2014-2016 model years, but extending throughout their dates of manufacture. Drivers report catastrophic failure with no warning signs; unfortunately, there's no real way to combat this, but preventative maintenance might help You. Most drivers received no indication that their transmission was going, until one day it did. The Transit 250 is designed to carry weight, but any time You're under load, Your transmission may heat up. A hot transmission plus low (or broken down) trans fluid can be a recipe for a blown up transmission. Check Your fluid as often as possible (I recommend every 5,000 miles) and replace it every 30,000 to 40,000 miles.

The most common transmission problems facing the Ford Transit 250 is erratic shifting, rough shifting and delayed gear engagement.

I have a 2016 Transit 250 with just over 30,000 miles. It needs a new transmission. This seems to be a very common problem. Does Ford offer any explanation or assistance other than $ 6500 for new transmission ?
