Some of the 2002 GMC Envoy front differential problems are the front differential seizing up and leaking fluid from the differential. The differential is a key part of Your car that sends power from the engine and transmission to the individual wheels. Rather than both wheels turning at the same rate, a differential allows for more precise control of the vehicle.Like all components of Your vehicle, Your differential needs periodic service. The primary maintenance step is to replace the differential oil (otherwise known as gear oil) per the manufacturers recommendation. To the naked eye, differential/gear oil will look similar to common engine oil if it is leaking out the bottom of the vehicle. However, a good indicator is to figure out where the leaks are coming from.

Differentials tend to cause excessive noise when they are low on gear oil. The clattering of the gears while driving will be a sure sign that there is a problem. Also, the traction control light may be illuminated in some vehicles, and there may be a loud knocking noise when "d" or "r" is selected.
