The most common problem reported for the 2003 Hyundai XG350 is a defective exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), which switches valves and causes an intermittent or unstable engine idle. The average cost to replace this is $180 to $220. Another very common complaint is concerning the fuel tank. Owners have an issue with the line causing the pump to kick off prematurely when adding gas. Sometimes, it clicks off as being full even after less than $1 has been added. Many issues with poor shift quality have been recorded. In some cases, replacing the transmission fluid fixes the problem. In other cases, the transmission control module needs to be updated with the lateSTSoftware. Issues have also been reported with the suspension, seat belts, electrical system, and body paint.

I have owned a 2003 XG350i since 2008 and has 125K on the clock. The basic Engine has been good. It does have the EGR valve problem. I put a new timing belt on at 120K as good measure but what a horrible job to do. Power steering hoses leaked for years and was a nightmare of a job to replace them. The transmission always had odd shifts from firm to slipping into the next gear. Now at 125K there is metal bit collecting on the vehicle output sensor on the transmission causing the speedometer to read zero at all speeds. With a heavy clucking feeling while making turns I think metal parts are in the spider gears of the differential (transmission) . I expect the trans to come to a sudden end soon. The gas filler problem was always a issue. Door switches cause the doors to lock when ever they please. Never leave the keys in the car!! I will get locked out! Warped brake rotors at 100K . A very fancy car for 2003 with every bell and whistle possible for that time. It is geared a bit to low to get fantastic gas mileage about 2300 to 2500 RPM at 70 MPH. 20 miles MPG. The body has held up good for being in the Iowa rust belt. I now drive it like a 90 year old man and let up on it for each shift. I will miss this nice car when the tranny blows!
