The biggest problem that arrises with the alternator in a 2003 Nissan Maxima is usually with the voltage regulator on the alternator. This is the component that is designed to help determine the voltage that the alternator will run and charge the battery at. If this fails You will notice that Your alternator is not charging at a full 14.4 volts anymore. Another common problem with the alternator has to do with the pulley on it. When this pulley or belt slips while the vehicle is running it will result in the alternator's rotor not turning and therefore it will not be producing electricity. This can result in the vehicle dying and can also lead to a dead battery.

Common 2003 nissan maxima alternator problems are related to the alternator failing and that leads to the battery not being charged.
