The transmission problems in a 2005 Jaguar XJ8 are relatively few. There have been some reported issues with the control module, which causes the transmission to either not shift, or skip shifts which could over Rev the engine. The best thing You can do to prevent most of the issues with the transmission is to inspect the fluid level often at least once a month and two keep the level within the normal operating range. Also, have the fluid changed according to Your owners manual. Overtime the viscosity of the fluid will breakdown providing less protection to the internal components of the transmission. As the components rotate inside the transmission, they produce friction and heat which overtime can deteriorate the fluid.
