The most common motor mount problems in a 2006 Chevy Impala are just related to the mounts failing. The motor mounts in Your car are made of metal and have a rubber bushing between them. This rubber bushing helps reduce the vibrations from the motor into Your vehicle. When one of these bushings wears out and collapses then it is essentially just like having a metal motor mount. When that happens there will be excessive vibrations from the motor that make it into the vehicle. This can make the vehicle run rough. If multiple motor mounts all break at once this can lead to the engine damaging the linkage with the transmission as well since it will slip out of alignment.

If the 2006 Chevy impala has an issue with the motor mount then you will notice impact noise and vibration coming from the engine, and it will shift and move when running.
