One of the top reported problems with the 2006 Lexus ES330 is illumination of the Check Engine Light accompanied with the P0171 and P0174Codes. The first code is for "System Too Lean (Bank 1)". What this means is there is too much oxygen in the exhaust and has been detected by the O2 sensor in Bank 1. The second code is triggered for the same reason however it is reported by the upstream O2 sensor in Bank 2. The symptoms that correspond with these two codes are poor gas mileage, no power, and hesitation on acceleration. The cause is often a d***y mass airflow sensor. While it can be cleaned it is usually recommended that it be replaced entirely. The average estimated cost is $140 to $150 for parts and $35 to $45 for labor.
