Owners of the 2008 BMW 328I complain of erratic shifting that includes movements that are too loose or hard. Some have opted to switch drive modes to compensate for the 328I's odd shifting habits only to discover there is an error in the system. BMW dealerships perform a software re-set or update for affected vehicles to the BMW's EGS or transmission control module. Reports detail difficulty shifting between 1st and 2nd, 2nd and 3rd gears, due to a "lag" in moving. Problems exist mainly when driving in "normal" vs "sport" mode. Noises sometime accompany transmission issues and problems appear mainly between 70,000-80,000 miles. 2007 models of the 328iAre also affected.
