While the 2007 Ford Focus' automatic transmission is mostly problem free, and doesn't require any particular additional maintenance (unlike the 2011-2016 models that resulted in A-A-Classction suit for Ford!), You should be aware that occasionally You may see the OD light start to flash after shifting gears. This likely will be indicative that You need to have the system serviced, and likely will be because of failure of the shift solenoids; look to pay around $250 for this procedure if You bring it into a mechanic. Beyond that, most transmission problems are corrected by verifying You have the proper ATF fluid level and that it's free from debris and other contaminants.

If the 2007 ford focus is having issues with the transmission then you will notice several problems, including shaking or grinding while driving, a burning smell when the vehicle is on, the gears slipping when you shift, the shifter becoming stuck or non responsive, and leaking fluids. This can all lead to a transmission failure which will more or less kill the vehicle.
