The timing chains for the 2016 Chevy EquinoxAre built to last as long as the vehicle itself. It's unlikely You'll have any problems with it but if You do something to watch for will be the engine mIS Firing or giving You less power than You're used to. When the chain is not working correctly Your engine is going to be severely lacking in performance. A replacement chain kit will cost between $100 and $200. If You want to take it in for a professional to change out the chain then the total cost will be between $400 and $900.

The timing chain on this engine, and the entire 2.4 for that matter, are prone to failure well before most timing chain engines are supposed to. They are notorious for failures and oil consumption issues.

If the 2016 Chevy equinox is having issues with a bad timing chain then you will notice the engine misfiring or providing less power, metal shaving in the oil, and in some cases engine failure.

I replaced the crank shaft solenoids on my 2016 Chevy equinox twice while I had it for only about 2 years. Eventually the guard on my timing chain completely deteriorated. Timing chain broke, motor jumped time and bent the valves. Was quoted 7 grand for a replacement.

My 2016 Chevy equinox timing chain broke and damaged the engine. Patriot Chevrolet put a new timing chain on and it disabled my car . I had to pay them for the chain and labor and then towed my car home because they wanted to charge me $8000 for a new engine .
