The Cadillac XT5's AF50-8 transmission is an 8-speed model introduced in the compact SUV in 2017. It is considered high-tech and sophisticated but suffers from numerous NHTSA registered complaints that include hard or rough up and down shifting when new. One owner had to replace the electronic transmission after only 1,800 miles of being driven. Others experienced loud "banging" noises when attempting to move into reverse accompanied by a "lurching" motion that moved the vehicle 3 feet backward or more. This event was recorded at 8,300Miles. Eventually GM issued a recall notice for 2017-2018 models claiming the TCM needed its software re-progRammed. The recall describes downhill driving conditions that cause the transmission to remain stuck in gear or shift up later than expected when rpms are already high.

While driving my XT5 shifted into M gear. I could not drive more than 10 miles per hour. Had topull off road and shift into park then shift back into drive.

My 2018 xt5 periodically downshifts for no reason at stop signs/lights. Today it froze in Park during a drive-thru restaurant...would not budge....had to shut off engine and restart.

I bought a used 2020 Cadillac XT5 premier luxury, with nine speed transmission. It had 36,000 miles on it and noticed after buying it that going from a stop the vehicle would shimmy or jerk in Lowe gears.there is no way to check transmission fluid. So at 47,000 miles I took itSo at 47,000 miles I took it in for a transmission fluid exchange. The problem went away!
