Failure of the inhibitor switch has prompted a recall of the 2018 Hyundai Sonata. This switch, also called the neutral safety switch is a device that stops the car from starting if the transmission is in to in park or neutral. If the car could start in other positions then when You start there is a very high likely hood of You moving forward, potentially into someone else's car or a wall. If the switch is not working You can still drive, but You need to be really, really careful that You do not have an accident. It is best to have this replaced as soon as possible, as going to court over a bad switch means You will more or less lose no matter what.

My 2020 Hyundai Kono has led then 10,000 miles and the other day it would not start. Road side service picked it up with a flatbed. Had he car for 2 days then I was told it was ine inhibitor switch, they ordered one but may take a week or more to get. They said it’s working now and I can pick it up today by 6PM. After reading these other stories I’m skeptical about leasing another Hyundai!

My 2016 hybrid had a failed inhibitor switch. Dealership repaired it, it immediately failed again
