The Kia Sorento has been singled out for rear differential and axle issues that include complaints the differential leaks fluid causing tremendous loss of driving power and a loud bang from the back end of the Sorento. The ievent is caused by axles damaging the diff. The failures happened between 68,000 and over 100,000 miles. In all cases rear axles broke, creating holes in the suspension and differentials and large lubricant leaks. Some owners found themselves replacing the differential within 10,000 mile increments with failure first appearing at 24,000 then approximately 34,000 miles. In each instance the repair was preceded by banging and clunking from the back end of the vehicle, grinding, wheel locking and a sudden loss of drivability and power.

My 2015 Kia Sorento Lx with 99500 on just blew the rear-end out. The whole carrier is cracked in half. I had no leaks or issues prior to this. If this is common in these I'll never buy another one.

Some potential rear axle problems are caused by a bad rear differential in a 2014 kia sorento and can lead to worn u-joints, unbalanced drive shaft or a broken pinion-gear.

My 2014 Kia Sorento started having issues at 90K - replaced transmission twice - now on my third - rear differential, rear axles just went out at 100K So very disappointed - I have not had any issues until my car hit 90K. I'm the type of owner who has maintained and kept a very clean and spotless car. Honestly, my GMC Jimmy had 189K on it before I started having issues.... Won't be purchasing another KIA

My car is in the shop and Kia gave me a diagnostic of the rear differential blowing in my 2014 Kia Sorrento. Does anyone know if there was a recall on this vehicle for this issue? They want$5000 to fix this.

This isn’t an answer it’s a question but I wasn’t sure where to post it. Question…..my 2020 Kia Sorento is at dealer now for a cracked rear differential it’s got 19,303 miles on it. So, will this vehicles differential crack every 10,000 miles? Is that what you mean by every 10,000 mile increments??????
