The Mazda2 5 skyactiv engine does not have any specific issues, but it can develop all the same issues as any other engine. If You do not change the fluids, mainly the oil, as needed then the engine can develop damage over time. Likewise, You want to make sure You have a clear air intake as too little or too much will make the engine run badly. Likewise bad or d***y sparkplug will make for inconsistent power output. An overheating engine will cause head gasket failure if allowed to happen repeatedly. Finally, if the engine is rattling in the compartment then You may have a broken bolt on the engine mount. This is an easy fix, so don't ignore it.

Mine only has 33,000 miles and has a bad misfire problem. The dealership cant figure it out

53K and I have an engine running too lean and multiple misfires when the engine is fully warmed up. 2016 Mazda6
I can't say specificallyfor this engine but usually a lean code is due to unmetered air. Check for loose intake hose clamps, damaged or un attached vacuum lines, or lastly a faulty intake gasket.
Our 2014 Mazda 6 with this engine, 132,000 miles , perfectly maintained, had catastrophic engine failure. No longer under warranty.

2018 Mazda 6 GTR Issue 1: something inside one of the cylinders broke at 36000 miles. Covered under warranty. Issue 2: the coolant reservior cracked at 75000 miles.
