The steering rack in a Mazda6 uses a new all electric power steering instead of the hydraulic system that has been used until recently. One of the downsides of this new system is electronic components that are more prone to failure than the old systems which have decades of testing and use behind them. One of these problem parts is the torque sensor that is located in the steering rack. When this part goes bad it can cause a dangerous situation where the steering system is weak in one direction but very hard in the other. The electronic power steering motor uses the torque sensor to know how much force to put into the current steering operation. This means the system thinks you are lightly steering when you turn to the right but when you turn to the left it thinks you are yanking the wheel as hard as you can. This is a very dangerous fault to experience, especially at highway speeds.

My Mazda6 steering froze up in high speed california freeway traffic just about to go into large traffic circle. I have never been so scared in my life.

The system is very worrisome. Recently, a newer Mazda sedan lost control because the entire system seized up with zero ability to turn or correct; the car veered off the shoulder, hit a fence, took out its end, miraculously zipped between a large sign & a parked truck, sped across a highway, hit a telephobe pole guy wire and slammed into a shed. Stunningly light damage, no injuries. The electric steering failed. I will never own a Mazda for that reason alone.

The mazda 6 2020 steering rack problems can cause loose steering, steering wheel shakes, and a clunking noise.
