The most common reason that there will be an intermittent starting problem in a Subaru Forester is a battery that is dying. When Your battery gets older it does not have the amperage capacity to crank over the motor anymore and this can lead to it not starting, especially during cold weather situations. Another reason that Your Subaru Forester may not start has to do with the injectors. The fuel injectors in Your engine are known to get clogged from time to time and that can lead to the vehicle struggling to, and being unable to start properly due to a loss of fuel pressure. You usually will need to clean Your injectors to solve this problem.

Originally, battery-less than 2 years old was bad and replaced under Subaru warranty. Two weeks later, it dot start although battery seemed OK. It may be the injectors or the starter as suggested above. What else cat it be!

My 2019 Forester had intermittent problems starting, mostly with restarting from the economy mode. It checked out OK at the dealership. It would lag randomly when starting. After the 2nd time it wouldn't start I bought a new battery. I did a search and found out there are lots of issues with the batteries wearing out too soon.

I was just told my starter was going bad. It started having weird start patterns then eventually was almost like a dying battery. Battery is fine starter is bad. Apparently they have a problem in more then one because when the dealer ordered the starter he was told they had to test them because most that were being shipped were bad.

Intermittent starting problems on the Subaru Forester can be caused by a failing starter or alternator.
