Some of the Volkswagen Beetle starting problems may include, but are not limited to an Electrical system issue or fuel delivery problem. Things to check in the electrical system would be the battery to verify it has a full charge. Inspect the terminals for corrosion and clean them if needed. Verify the starter is working. Look for a loose or damaged wire. Check the starter relay and fuse. Finally, have the alternator tested to make sure it is good. The fuel system is the other potential reason for starting problems. The fuel pump is the first thing to check. You can turn the key to the on position, have someone listen from under the car, if the pump is working it will make a brief hum. Other components that may fail are the fuel injectors or spark plugs.

Although there are a number of reasons why your volkswagen beetle won't start, the most prevalent 3 are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or a failed starter.
We have a 74 super beetle with auto stick. Car runs flawlessly until parked when hot usually a 30 minute drive will cause the problem. Car will then not start. Turn the key no solenoid no starter just the sound of silence. After the car sits an hour or so turn the key and starts the first time. Hot the starting circuit is dead. Could it be the neutral safety switch? PLEASE somebody contact me, we are seniors with no good local help. Dsmith1961@protonmail.com
