The main reason that a 2008 Chevy Malibu will overheat is because of low coolant levels in the engine. Usually this happens when there is a leak somewhere in the cooling system. I recommend checking the cooling hoses where they meet with the radiator and the water pump that is on Your engine. These are just connected with hose clamps that can come loose over time and may need to be replaced. It is also possible for coolant lines to spring leaks since they are made of rubber and can wear out. Any of these will lead to decreased cooling performance and that can lead to the engine overheating. When Your engine overheats it can cause permanent damage and even destroy the motor.
