A common issue with the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse's fuel gauge is a lack of accuracy, which can leave some drivers stranded by the side of the highway, contemplating the poor life choices that have resulted in putting them there... Or directing them to buy a Chevy in the first place. I'm kidding, but not about the accuracy bit: This is a known issue with Chevy fuel gauges, for over a decade. Another worrisome problem on the 2011s is that the fuel level sending unit can prematurely fail. This is a sensor in the fuel tank that tells the ECU how much fuel's left, which gets displayed on the fuel gauge. When this fails, obviously, you stop getting any reading at all. Replacement costs for this tend to be about $300 in labor and $670 for parts, so it's not cheap to address either.

If the fuel level transmitting device fails, the fuel gauge may fail to work, and the check engine light will illuminate in some vehicles. The trouble codes stored on-board diagnostic (obd) will be relative to the fuel level sensor if the light on the test engine does illuminate.
