The main reason that a Chevy Cruze would have problems with the RPMs are due to ECU and sensor problems in the engine. Your vehicle has may different sensors that help it run properly. There are throttle position sensors, airflow sensors, O2 sensors, and crankshaft position sensors. If any of these fail then the ECU will not have all the information that it needs. These sensors work together to let Your ECU know when to add air, fuel, and spark to complete the combustion sequence in a cylinder. If any of these sensors fail then that usually means that the engine will run rough and will not have stable RPMs while idling or accelerating.

If your rpm gauge doesn't work on your Chevy Cruze. First thing to check is your crank sensor..on this vehicle the sensor is located next to the starter towards the firewall of the vehicle, you HAVE to remove the starter to change out the sensor.. Idk why but on this car one end of the sensor is inside by the flywheel. And this sensor uses the flywheel teeth to determine rpm timing

The chevy cruze rpm problems are a faulty sensor or it goes too high too quickly.
