Some Honda Accords produced between 2008 and 2013 suffered from an excessive amount of oil consumption. This issue was found on both the 4Cylinder and the V6 models, regardless of the mileage. The cause of the consumption was a "systematic design defect that enables oil to enter into the engine's combustion chamber." Honda issued 2 service bulletins that stated if the consumers car was burning more than 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles they would tear down and rebuild the engine so that the piston rings could be replaced. Some owners that did not meet this limitation were able to lower the amount of burned oil by replacing the PCV valve found on the top of the engine towards the rear of the intake manifold.
