You might encounter an issue with the tailgate lock on Your Honda CR-V "sticking" when the weather is very cold (below 30 degrees... So very cold as defined by folks on the coast, not the mid-west, where it's still shorts weather until You hit about 10 degrees!) and requiring WD-40 to "unstick". There's also some general issues with the rear latch mechanism no longer properly staying secured when closed. This is because the latch itself fails due to corrosion. Getting this fixed at a dealership out of warrant will typically cost about $40 for the part and around $135 for the labor.

The honda crv tailgate has had some reported problems that have lead to the tailgate not closing fully and allowing the latch to stick.
