A ticking sound in a Chevy Cruze is most commonly caused by a valve spring issue. If You hear the ticking even when You are at idle that is the most likely culprit. If You only hear ticking noises while You accelerate then it could be something in the engine, or in the intake. Debris sometimes makes it into Your intake piping and when You accelerate it may bounce around in the pipe and make a ticking sound against the plastic. The final thing that it could be is the tensioner for the accessory drive belt. When the spring in this wears out You will usually hear a ticking noise coming from it. The noise may also happen when there is a worn out bearing on the tensioner or anything else driven by the belt.

Any number of reasons may trigger a ticking noise, such as a low oil level or loose components. You can hear a noise ticking, clicking, or tapping while the car is idling, accelerating, or even after an oil change is made.
