The "battery saver active" on the Chevrolet Malibu means that the electrical system voltage has dropped to a critical level. The level has dropped below 11.7 volts, vehicles tend to run at 13+ volts with the engine running or 12 volts when the vehicle is sitting. When it is active, non essential functions will stop or run slower. If the volt level drops below 11.7 then the engine might not be able to run properly any longer. So it is important to get the vehicle checked when the battery saver active is on because it means the battery is not properly charging. If a new battery is needed, a new one costs anywhere from $120 to $240, depending on the brand and the store.

This will reduce some smaller features on the car, and will help to save the battery for a little longer.

So far I've done all that as well. Now I'm at the battery current sensor which I can easily replace but will need a dealership to reprogram. They won't quote me unless I come to spend money on an assessment to tell me what's already wrong.
