Code 52 on the Chevy Sonic means that it is time to replace the timing belt. This will cost You about 75 dollars for the belt. If You have a mechanic do it they will cost You an extrA50 to 70 dollars. You can get away with using the old belt for a little bit, but don't push it. If the belt breaks while You are driving then You will need a tow, which will be pricey.

I replaced my timing belt at 100K sharp and the code is still there and I now have 111,177 and it did not go away. How do I reset it?

When you get the code 52 on the chevy sonic, it just means that your car has hit 100k miles.

Code 52 is a maintenance code announcing your timing belt is due for replacement. It comes on every 100K miles. If you do nothing, it will turn off at 108K miles. My Sonic has 210K miles on it now and I've never changed the timing belt. Not saying everyone's Sonic will perform this well, but in my lifetime, I've never lost an engine due to a timing belt failure. If the car makes it to 250K, which it is still running very well, I will probably have it replaced.

Mine came on at 160834 km which seems to be 100k Miles. And I thought I had a problem. I'll just reset for now.

I had my timing belt replaced 7 months ago and am now getting the code 52. Can I simply reset at this point given the belt was recently changed.

With a code 52 at 200,000 miles, what will happen if I wait? I replaced at 100,000. Would it mess up the engine if I wait?
