If You are driving Your Chevy Silverado and You notice a check engine light on the dash the first thing that You should do is try to get off the road as soon as possible to not cause more damage to the engine. Once You are safely stopped You can use an OBD II scan tool to read the code that is stored in the ECU that caused the light to turn on. If You have a code P0449 that means that there was a problem detected with the EVAP vent solenoid. Usually this will have to be replaced when it detects a problem because it is likely not opening or closing as it should.
