If You happen to get a check engine light while You are driving Your 2014 Chevy Malibu the first thing You should do is try to get off the road as soon as possible since running with errors in Your car could damage the engine. Next You will want to connect an OBD II scan tool to the car's port and read the code that is stored in the ECU. If You have a code P16CF that means that there is a problem with the rocker arm actuator system. Usually when this happens Your ECU will also put the vehicle in limp mode to not damage any of the components in the engine. You may need to replace a sensor or an entire rocker arm depending on what has failed.

The rocker arm actuator system is enabling the engine control module to create change the camshaft lift and duration while the engine is operating and when low lift is commanded, oil pressure removes a locking pin within the rocker arm. The rocker arm solenoid valve gets a signal from the ecm.
