The Japanese automaker designed the all-wheel-drive unit to provide "maximum traction" for all-weather, off-road capabilities whenever You see the "X" moniker on any Subaru vehicle like the 2019 Forester Edition XT trim. The "T" indicates it is coupled with a turbocharged Boxer engine. The manufacturer did drop the Forester 2.0XT turbocharged in 2019 and has discontinued the model. Consumers and Subaru fans were very upset because they have had it in production since 2003. Subaru did comment and stated that they discontinued the 2.0XT Forester because it had sportiness already and did not equate to more power for the new-generation model. The XT version of the Subaru vehicle models are designed for more power and added traction to allow tight cornering with the all-wheel drive model.

X = Trim level. T = Turbo. XT is the higher trim levels. That's how they've always done the Forester.

XT is the Turbo Model discontinued for the Forester in 2018. XT Forester is very quick, only milliseconds slower than the WRX STI. Only problem with the XT Forester is it's CVT, you'll need to get a High Performance CVT cooler if you plan to Tune the XT. A stage 1 Tune will make the XT even much faster. However, the maximum HP you can reach is about 350, though there's one on youtube that is getting 400 HP on a stage 2 tune costing only 1 grand for superior performance, making most BMW 3's, Audi and even the new Acura RDX and Honda Passport incomparable in cost to performance ratio. I'm too happy with my XT, it's very nimble, better handling than the BMW3, and quicker offline than the RDX, also has the best 4 wheel drive, only the Audi A3 station wagon is comparable in 4 wheel drive performance. And, only a Jeep is better in off-road, or an after-market Hilux. Get the new XT Outback sport model, it's even faster when tuned. :D
